Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and Students,
Welcome to the 2018 - 2019 school year at Ganesha High School, where we are committed to excellence in academics, athletics and activities. This school year marks the 60th anniversary of the opening of Ganesha High School which we will celebrate at our 60th Homecoming on Friday, September 21st. As a school site we look back at our accomplishments with GIANT pride and we look forward to the next generation of GIANT scholars.
As your Principal I am excited to welcome all GIANTS back to school on Thursday, August 9th, school starts at 7:00 am every day if you have a zero period class. However, most GIANTS will start their day, period 1 at 8:00 am, Please be on time! Get to school by 7:30 am to eat breakfast and check the attendance windows for your Period 1 class. Student schedules are also available online via Student & Parent Connect. Parents/Guardians, please note students will be released at 1:30 pm on August 9th. Friday, August 10th is a late start Friday schedule with a 9:00 am start time for Period 1 students.
I am pleased to announce several new changes to our campus for the new school year. In late September of 2018 our newly renovated 21st Century Library will be unveiled, as well as our new Career Center in Room 45. This Fall, we will also officially welcome the Cal Poly Pomona Innovation Lab and our partnership with Cal Poly Pomona’s Entrepreneurial Program. Ganesha High Seniors will have an opportunity to earn college credit at Cal Poly while attending our joint GHS/CPP Innovation Entrepreneurship Program. This is in addition to the 2nd year of our Mt. San Antonio College Dual Enrollment Program which is expanding the number of courses Ganesha offers for seniors to earn both high school and university credit for English & Literature courses. This year over 75% of all GHS seniors will be enrolled and earning college credits while still in high school at no cost to students! Our CISCO program will add the 3rd course in its pathway this year, offering a capstone program for students interested in the field of technology. Students will be prepared for the CISCO certification allowing students to apply for high paying careers immediately upon high school graduation.
Ganesha is committed to you and our students and we offer a variety of ways to support students and families. All GHS students have access to our Resource Center which offers college tutors to support students during the school day, tutoring for an hour after school Mondays-Thursdays and an hour before school on Friday mornings. All students receive a free breakfast and free lunch every day and students who attend Saturday School are also offered a free breakfast as well. All students also have access to our Student Support Center in Room 43 where students have access to free counseling and social emotional support 8am-4pm. Our Parent Center offers a variety of workshops and meetings each month and I encourage parents/guardians to attend and get involved.
This year our Superintendent, Mr. Martinez has clearly defined our district mission, “Be the One!” I am encouraging all staff, students, parents and community members to “be the one” who makes a difference in the lives of others. Be the one to lift others, support others and be a role model. It takes only one person to make a difference and change the world. Remember, to the world you may be one person, but to one person you are their world! Be the One!
I look forward to seeing you on campus as we celebrate this historic 60th year at GHS!
Wishing you a GIANT 2018 - 2019 school year!
